What about Iyengar teacher training?
Many have asked about this, so we've provided an overview, please visit www.iynaus.org for more information:
Yoga is for everyone. No one is too old or too stiff, too fat, thin or tired. A Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher can guide students of all ages and physical conditions to an experience of yoga, which is safe, accessible and rewarding.
Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructors are held to an unusually rigorous standard. Only after years of training and evaluation do they become certified. Iyengar Yoga teachers modify the classic asanas (yoga postures) for individual students with the use of props such as blocks, blankets and belts. Props allow for a deeper penetration into the posture, as well as a longer stay.
Iyengar Yoga teachers use their deep-seated knowledge of the asanas to individualize corrections for each student. Students know they are observed and, if necessary, adjusted. Clear demonstrations of the posture, a well-developed eye, specific teaching points which awaken the body’s intelligence these are the marks of an Iyengar Yoga teacher.
Becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher requires years of practice, study and a rigorous examination of skills. For teachers, the Certification Mark demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the purity, excellence and high standards of Iyengar Yoga.
Certified Iyengar Yoga instructors teach the method set forth by BKS Iyengar without mixing in other styles or disciplines. They maintain a regular personal practice, continue their training with senior teachers or by traveling to the Iyengar Institute in India , and hold to ethical guidelines. Every Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher has passed at least two rigorous, standardized assessments. Some have passed many more.
We (IYNAUS) want sharp, crisp teaching, not casual teaching. We want to feel the candidate has done the work, knows the poses, is able to get the information out in a clear concise form and sees what is in front of them. At each level these expectations increase.
